our history

The origin of the association can be traced back to social gatherings in the late 1990s and early 2000s when some SOBANs chatted about creating an organization of SOBANs in NRW. In the beginning, it was all about coming together. We set out tracing all SOBANs who lived in Germany. We realised that in order to build a group which is integral and strong, we needed to meet as often as possible. In this regard, we limited ourselves to having members only in the German state of Nordrhein Westfalen. A few emails were sent out and before we knew, we were already meeting every month.

The first priority was for us to organise a convention, so as to win many members and sensitize the public about our existence and organisational abilities. Those chats were followed up with a couple of email threads, a creation meeting in 2002 and in July 2003 the first convention was held in Dortmund.

The official registration into the German registry of associations was carried out in 2006 with the name Sasse Old Boys Association Nordrhein Westfalen e.V. and having as president – Clement Nkamanyi, Secretary General – Oscar Njumbe and Treasurer – Chemafor Michael.
